The Friday Five 11.20.20

Happy Friday! We made it to the end of another week! I spent a few days finishing up child psychiatry and then started adult psychiatry. There is so much to learn to best help these patients manage their mental illnesses and I am doing my best to stay on top of the studying. And of course, it’s almost Thanksgiving! I know there is a lot of extra stress and anxiety around how to see family safely or if to see them at all. I listened to this podcast episode with Dr. Fauci and it gave me a lot to think about in terms of how we continue to protect ourselves and our loved ones. And here are a few (well, five) other things I enjoyed this week!

This interview with President Obama is your loooooong read of the weekend. It’s hard to believe he has more to say, but his 700+ page memoir is awaiting my attention, so I guess I’ll find out soon.

I recently devoured Save Me The Plums: My Gourmet Memoir by Ruth Reichl and she included a recipe for the perfect tomato sauce. It comes from the Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking by Marcella Hazan, who is to Italian cooking in America what Julia Child is to French cooking. Fun fact: they shared an editor, Judith Jones! I immediately ordered the cookbook and the sauce was the first thing I made – let me tell you, it is everything I thought it would be.

I still don’t know if I was hate-reading this or not, but it was certainly interesting to see Ivanka Trump through the eyes of her childhood friend.

I watched The Queen’s Gambit and my jaw hit the floor when I realized Harry Beltick is a grown up Dudley Dursley!! And in other royal watching, The Crown is back and we’ve hit peak drama with Diana this season.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, but I really hate the Apple interface so I finally did something about it and downloaded Pocket Casts! So far, I’m a big fan – it’s very user friendly. Only downside is that the search function is a bit inferior to Apple when it comes to discovering new podcasts.

What has been your favorite read/listen/watch/discovery of the week?
